Abstract

This article focuses on self-improvement techniques such as meditation and pranayama.The author concludes that Eastern religious and mystical practices aimed to understanding the true being, adunation with the Absolute Tao and Supreme Yoga. They based on specific physical and physiological concepts of the human body, understanding man as a microcosm, and involve complex and long-term training of body and spirit. The author talks about the differences between Chinese and Indian religious and mystical practices. The ancient Indian practice aimed to achieve spiritual freedom, moksha, liberation of Purusha. Anyway, many spiritual and physical practices, using meditation and breathing techniques for different purposes, shows the influence of Indian mystic psychophysiology, based on a particular understanding of human nature and man’s place in the universe.
