Abstract

The historical study of the process of Islamization of Turkic-speaking peoples is one of the most relevant trends in modern guumanitary science. Its importance is also related to the revival of religious processes in the Islamic world at the present stage and the widespread spread of the phenomenon of the Muslim renaissance. At the same time, the strengthening of the spiritual, cultural and social activity of Islam in Kazakhstan's society determines the need to rethink the history of the adoption of Islam by the Turkic peoples on the basis of new data and modern scientific methods. It is important to note the influence of the states that lived in this region in explaining the foundations of the formation of Islam in modern Kazakh society. The purpose of the study is to identify the historical, cultural and spiritual continuity of religious concepts and beliefs formed during the Golden Horde period – one of the first states associated with the Islam – with the Islamic worldview established on the territory of modern Kazakhstan. The study used an interdisciplinary approach that combined the methods of history, religious studies, political science and Social Sciences. In addition to medieval Arabic, Persian, Chinese and Egyptian written sources, scientific works of domestic and foreign scientists are formed. In the course of the study, the identified features were compared with the traditions of Islam that have developed in the modern Kazakh steppe, and historical and worldview connections between them were considered. As a result of the study, the experience of Islamization during the Golden Horde period is evaluated as the most important factors explaining the historical foundations and cultural features of Islam in modern Kazakhstan.
