Psychological factors influencing the religious identity formation: a theoretical analysis

Abstract

This study examines the psychological factors involved in the formation of a person's religious beliefs, attitudes, and behavioral characteristics. The aim of the research is to investigate the psychological factors that influence the formation of religious identity and analyze their interconnections. The work is aimed at revealing the foundations of religious identity from religious, psychological, and social perspectives. Using psychological theories and concepts, it systematically analyzes the main reasons and factors affecting the development of religious identity. The results of the analysis provide an understanding of how religious identity influences personal development and social interactions. The theoretical basis of the study is grounded in the principles of personality psychology, developmental psychology, and social psychology. It considers the individual's belief systems, emotions, social connections, and cultural influences in the formation of religious identity. The study also analyzes how religious beliefs and values affect a person’s personal development, behavior, and their place in society. During the examination of the psychological aspects of religious identity, the significance of life experience and the individual's attitude toward religious beliefs are explored. The social and cultural aspects of religious identity are also analyzed, as religious beliefs have a significant impact on one's role in society, social relationships, and cultural perspectives. This research provides an opportunity to understand the key factors and reasons influencing the psychological formation of religious identity, contributing to a deeper exploration of the relationship between religious beliefs and personal development. Furthermore, the results of the study will enhance the interaction between psychology and religious studies and open new perspectives in contemporary psychological theories related to the formation of religious identity.
